Our Key Focus Areas

To a better world

The organization directs its energy toward four strategic focus areas designed to address the unique challenges of Northern Bangladesh. In the realm of socio-economic empowerment, they facilitate income-generating activities like tailoring and handicrafts while nurturing small savings groups that grant women financial independence. Their education and child protection pillar ensures that first-generation learners have access to the BMS Model Primary School while actively campaigning against the region’s high rates of child marriage. To combat the environmental threats of the Teesta and Dharla rivers, they focus on climate change adaptation through renewable energy and disaster risk reduction. Finally, they maintain a rigorous focus on institutional governance, ensuring that their all-female leadership remains equipped with the policy frameworks necessary to manage complex humanitarian projects effectively.

Championing Gender Justice and Leadership

Bakultali Mahila Sangshad places the empowerment of women at the very center of its mission, working tirelessly to dismantle the patriarchal barriers that limit female potential in Northern Bangladesh. Through intensive leadership training and community-based advocacy, the organization equips women with the tools to voice their rights, combat gender-based violence, and take up active roles in local decision-making bodies. By fostering a culture where women are seen as leaders rather than bystanders, BMS is creating a social shift that ensures every woman in the community can live with dignity, safety, and a recognized voice in governance.

Advancing Inclusive Education and Child Rights

Recognizing that education is the ultimate catalyst for breaking the cycle of poverty, BMS operates specialized learning centers and the BMS Model Primary School to reach children who are often left behind by the formal system. Their focus extends beyond the classroom as they lead powerful campaigns against child labor and early marriage, ensuring that the youth of Kurigram are protected and nurtured. By providing a high-quality, inclusive learning environment for first-generation students, the organization is laying the groundwork for a future generation that is literate, skilled, and fully aware of their fundamental rights.
